Jacob S. Goldberg

JakeJacob founded Goldberg General Contracting, Inc., GGC, in 1987. Performing dual roles at the company, he serves as president, responsible for day-to-day management, and project manager, actively overseeing many of the firm’s high-end jobs.

Raised in an entrepreneurial household by a successful interior designer, Cynthia E. Goldberg Interior Design, and an accomplished architect, Seymour G. Goldberg & Associates, it is clear where Jacob acquired his intuitive understanding of design.

From his formative years as a draftsman, to his work as a carpenter, contractor and finally a custom builder, Jacob has more than a quarter -century of experience. Raised in the "Old school" of doing business, Jacob finishes every project with a personal commitment to the integrity of the team's workmanship. Dedicated to his clients, he has built his company on a steady stream of referral business. As a result, many of his business relationships with interior designers and architects span more than a decade.

Jacob’s interest blossomed when he entered Lane Tech High School where he was encouraged to take vocational shop classes, as well as architectural and mechanical drafting courses. During this time he also worked for his father’s firm. While attending college he worked as an independent carpenter and remodeling contractor and was well on his way to establishing his own company. Graduating from the University of Illinois at Champaign - Urbana, he earned degrees in finance and economics.

In the early years of GGC, Jacob worked in the field, as well as the office, honing his trade skills in carpentry, tile setting, electrical, plumbing etc. He made a concerted effort to finish every job with a handshake, a smile and a record with his clients of a job completed with quality and professionalism. Only later did he come to appreciate how those early years of dedication would become the foundation for things to come. Striving to continually develop his operation, he trains his employees first hand and encourages them to rise through the ranks.

A consultant to City of Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, Jacob regularly serves as an adviser on ways to improve the Chicago Building Department and its building permit process. He is also a member of the mayor’s 21st Century Leadership Council.

From renovations and new construction, to light commercial and retail interior projects, Jacob has never waned from a focus on quality and attention to detail. His goal has always been to please the client with personal service and create a great enduring product. Looking forward to the future, Jacob continues to refine his operation to better serve GGC’s growing commercial and residential clientele.
